Women-Owned Business NSW Initiative

Shaping the future of procurement for women-owned businesses in NSW.

In a nationwide first, ESBWA is proudly supported by the NSW Government to strengthen access to procurement for women-owned businesses. Through a coordinated program of visibility, capability building and industry connections, this initiative ensures that women founders across NSW, and nationally, can participate meaningfully in supply chains, tenders and procurement pipelines.

This initiative was announced at Western Sydney Innovation Connect: Women x Industry Summit on 3 March 2026, as part of International Women's Day and NSW Women's Week. Minister for Women Jodie Harrison shared a video message outlining the details.

Why This Matters

  • Blue circular button with a dark blue 'X' in the center

Until now, Australia has not had a dedicated advocacy body focused specifically on women-owned businesses within procurement and economic policy.

  • A pie chart with mostly blue sections and small dark blue and purple sections.

Women-owned businesses remain underrepresented, with only 1% of government contracts and spending by large businesses on suppliers globally going to women-owned businesses.

  • A circular blue icon with ten darker blue arrows pointing outward in different directions.

We have the opportunity to ensure that women are given greater opportunities to achieve economic security by reducing barriers to procurement.
